A man has been arrested for allegedly impersonating a government hospital doctor and treating patients using the doctor's name and registration number. The incident came to light after the concerned doctor, associated with a prominent government hospital in Kolkata, lodged a complaint earlier this month, claiming that his professional credentials were being misused in Amta, Howrah. Following the complaint, Chandrapur police outpost under Amta Police Station launched an investigation.
Police officials traced the accused, identified as Indranil Bose, to a clinic operating in Basirhat, North 24 Parganas. A team of officers posed as patients and visited the clinic to confirm the allegations. Upon verifying that the accused was indeed practicing under the false identity, the police disclosed their identity and arrested him on Wednesday evening. “I personally went as a patient and arrested him from the Basirhat clinic,” said Sub-Inspector Tapas Jana, who led the operation.
The accused is being brought to Howrah and will be produced before the Uluberia court on Thursday. Police are expected to seek his custody for further questioning. Investigators are now verifying how long he had been operating the clinic, how he accessed the doctor’s credentials, and whether any other persons were involved in the act.
